Is asking one's middle name considered prsonal?

What prompted me to ask was that I was reading surveys on myspace.com and some people refused to say. One even just gave the letter it started with. Maybe it's because it's such a public thing like myspace bulletins that they didn't answer but still, I'd like to know if people consider being asked their middle name personal.

Is asking one's middle name considered prsonal?
Asking (politely) someones middle name is not considered rude or personal. People posting information on public websites may not want family or others to find them so they use just the first letter of their middle name or no middle name at all. It is common in th U.S. to use the first letter of your middle name. For example, John H. Doe
Reply:I think it is exactly what you said... Giving out a full name is just to risky on line.
Reply:Even face to face, there are a lot of people that refuse to confess what their middle name is. It's as if they are afraid that they will be unfairly judged by the name given to them by their parents.
Reply:if a stanger asked my middle name I'd be hesitant just b/c I'd be like why? Uhm I think middle name is on need to know basis. It can be personal especially for men, so it seems. think of it like this don't those who know your middle name rather somewhat close to you?
Reply:it depends on who you talk to some ppl are guarded about their middle names for some ppl its like asking for thier social security number....lol but hey it all depends on tha person

good luck
Reply:I think it's more that most people don't LIKE their middle names. A lot of parents throw "family names" in the middle. (ex: my Dad's is EUGENE...)
Reply:i don't...
Reply:Yes, I guess it is like delving deep into the person's privacy.
Reply:No, but writing it down might be suspicious. (Knowing a person's full name might help find more out about them, including what it might take to invade their privacy in a much more threatening way.)
Reply:If I met someone face to face it would be alright, but on the internet it's different. you are likely to find lots of ppl with the same name as you, but the combination of middle ones narrows it down alot.
Reply:Yes it is
Reply:Yeah, I think its reticence on the Net... to protect privacy. But in person, I would love to tell people my middle name... Most people love it when you ask them to talk about themselves. Some people wouldn't like it, though, especially if they had a weird middle name.
Reply:ummmmm...identitiy theft. It is often a password or defining attribute to the many similar names in the world
