Will Letterman ever defeat Leno?

Since like 1994, Leno has soundly trounched Letterman in the ratings, except for a few times when Howard Stern has been on. I don't understand this because no one seems to like Leno, not the TV critics, not the people answering surveys, people on bulletin boards, etc. Yet he keeps winning. Why?

And if you could talk to Letterman, what would you suggest to help his ratings? Or do you think he even cars anymore?

Will Letterman ever defeat Leno?
I don't know why, but I like Letterman better than Leno.

Leno has a big chin.

It kind of scares me.
Reply:I love Letterman. I think he is the best late night host. I can't stand Jay Leno, he has no personality, his jokes suck, he doesn't know how to interview correctly. I don't know why he has better ratings, I guess people are used to turning it on because of Carson and are afraid of change but I think Lettermans show is about quality not quantity. I have a feeling the show's gonna go to hell after Conan takes over.
Reply:You surprised me there.....Leno really sucks......I've been a fan from the late nite Letterman days when his show started at 1:00 am..............Leno is too annoying and artificial.........

Dave is so laid back and luvable.......I don't think he cares about Leno...he knows he's better....who knows maybe his marriage will help him....he'll always be on late nite.....he's not going anywhere....too good !
Reply:Leno is a hack..... honestly he steals all of his bits and ideas from everyone else...... like his segment Jaywalking.... he stole that from The great Howard Stern........

Letterman is just original and funny hands down..... whatever comes out of his mouth doesnt even have to be funny, his delivery and reaction is just hilarious and priceless........

Great Moments In Presidential Speeches is the funniest bit i've ever seen in my life.
Reply:Letterman = Loser.
Reply:only if they're competing in number of heartattacks.
Reply:No, because everyone feels sorry for Letterman, and that is not a good way to get ratings in TV...

Leno is the substitue for the famous Johnny Carson, so you will always have viewers (older) that will watch just because it WAS a Johnny Carson show...

Letterman is dry, and I like the guy, but the general population, again, just feels sorry for him due to his heart surgery. Kinda like, nobody wants to upset him incase he has a heart palpitation or something!
Reply:I don't know why, either. I, and everyone I talk with far prefer Letterman to Leno. I think the Nielson families, of whom the ratings are based upon, are biased in some way, hence the HUGE discrepancy in this matter.

He does care, but what can he do - arm wrestle the Niesen families? Besides, if the network REALLY thought that his show was not attracting revenue, he'd be GONE in a NY minute - regardless of how popular he is with the masses!
