People on chatlines, bulletin boards etc?

A recent survey showed that these people were somewhat isolated from mainstream society because of low self-esteem, or perhaps 'unusual appearance' and lacked the confidence or opportunity to express their views in a wider public arena, lacking the usual network of friends or colleagues. I'm quoting here from a survey conducted in a respected academic publication. No value judgements intended. Me? just gathering material for a book!

Hmmm! There may be a grain of truth in that but I'm sure there's loads of other reasons why people prefer to do this and not go out! Me....I'm broke!
Reply:Some of us have chosen not to interact with the rat race as much as possible. We have as few close friends as is possible and comfortable.

Our self esteem may also be bigger than the regular rat racers. But we hide, avoiding human judgement. Some day the rest may catch-up with our intellect. Although we will have moved on by then to repeat the pattern.
