My ex (never married) likes to fill out myspace surveys and them post them as a bulletin (so all her "friends" can see). She has always talked about drinking, but this most recent survey was all about drinking. It asked the question "Who will be the first to repost this?" And she answered "Don't know, another alkie maybe " We have been having issues and I honestly think she ignores my daughter and puts me down in front of my daughter (I live 3000 miles away). I am thinking about going for full custody, but am on a limited budget. I don't have much other solid proof about her mother talking bad about me other than hearsay, but it really bothers me that her mother drinks so much. What can I do??? I'm on my wife's name right now, so I am a man. Please help !

I would say that if you have concerns about the way your child is being raised, your first step should be to ask your child what it's like living with her mother. I don't know how old your child is, but if you have concerns then you need to listen to your gut feeling on this issue. There is no money related issue here. It's all about the well being of the child. I would much rather see a child raised in low income, being well loved than in a loveless, rich household. Do the right thing and investigate this. Your child's well being maybe at stake here.

Realize that since you are on your wife's account asking this question she will see it and will know you have big concerns with this.

1. Your ex's drinking

2. Your daughter's welfare

3. Your feelings about the ex possibly putting you down. [I realise this can harm your daughter emotionally.]

Of these, obviously the most important is your daughter's welfare. You have very little EVIDENCE to base your suspicions on, apart from a possibly joky, casual reference on a website.

I have to wonder why you moved so far away if you were so concerned about your daughter. Never mind, you will have to part with some cash if you want to do anything serious about getting custody of your daughter.

For a start, get your own avatar ~ it is seriously confusing ~ I thought you must be a lesbian at first.

Myspace bulletin?
Go to "View All Bulletin Entries" under all of your friends bulletins. After that you'll be given the option to "Post Bulletin".

To copy surveys, you simply just copy and paste it onto your new bulletin. Hope this helps.
Reply:when you sign onto your myspace account.. under where your user picture on the left side will be, it will say INBOX, SENT, and i believe friend requests and post a bulletin..

or you can go to view all bulletins and the post a bulletin from there.

if you want to copy a survey, right highlight it and past it into a new bulletin!!

Reply:To repost, you have to copy the bulletin, and then go to your home page and down to the bulletin space. In the bottom right corner there is a link that says 'Post Bulletin.' Click it and paste the bulletin you're going to repost into the big text box.
Reply:Copy the survey go back to the bulletin board, post bulletin, paste it, then backspace the old answers and write your own, then hit post, then another page will come up and you hit post bulletin

ok ill like do a myspace survey or something for a bulletin and as soon as i finish i go to click on the first post. and for the past 3 weeks after i click on post the screen goes white and at the top left corner it will show 4 numbers and letters for example: 62f2 or 62e1 or Cfd3 or something idk what they arent but it wont let me go any farther and i havent been able to post a single bulletin for weeks does anyone know what this is? and how to fix it??

Myspace has been very glitchy lately. I was getting those errors when I was trying to post my blog. I ended up using a different browser to open myspace and that worked.

I was wondering with this country and world now communicating and depending on the internet and social networking websites like Facebook and Myspace to communicate with friends and family would we start paying to use the services and how much will we pay. I know for a fact that Americans will pay to take surveys and post bulletins and try to get the most friends but the question I am asking will you pay and how much will you pay?

Can you put a price on Social Networking?
i don't believe that it is right to put any sort of a price on social networking although i am surprised they haven't yet especially messenger but there would always be free one out there
Reply:Sure you can but it depends on the individual if they would pay for such a service. Odds are that just allowing a user to track their friends would not be enough to draw in people. You would have to offer special contact opportunities. Although anyone can keep up with their own contacts making contacts can be invaluable. Another thought you should have is before you can charge for your service you must first get a broad enough network that individual would feel that your service provides them the the contacts they need. Why would I sign up for something and pay for it if no one I am interested in keeping up with is signed up.

Personally I don't like social site because it is just something else I have to keep up with. If I thought is could replace another social contact method or make me additional contacts I suppose maybe but I can also do this for free so why would I pay.
Reply:I think this has been common knowledge in America for a long time that people will pay for friends. It's called "fraternities" and "sororities", and they pay thousands of dollars a year for their social networking.

I personally will not pay a dime for anything having to do with online networking, but anytime you pay a cover charge at a club or bar, you are paying for social networking (usually between $5 and $10 dollars in Louisiana where I live).

Big clear lettering usually attracts people. Make it easy to interact with if it should be interacted with. (people are usually shy timid creatures around things like that) Use bold colour with out making it look like a school project. What prompted me to ask was that I was reading surveys on myspace.com and some people refused to say. One even just gave the letter it started with. Maybe it's because it's such a public thing like myspace bulletins that they didn't answer but still, I'd like to know if people consider being asked their middle name personal.

Yes, that's SPAM and it's coming from advertisers. Same stuff you get in your email inbox, just through MySpace instead. Flag those messages as SPAM (there's an option for this in MySpace) to report them. And of course don't fall for any of it. I'm sure there are some real giveaways, but you won't get them as a message or bulletin. You'll see them as clickable ads in MySpace.

I suggest that the EEO company would certainly include these issues within it's vision and mission statement. Senior executive managers would then lead on Policy and Procedure. I would suggest that they would start with an audit of their people resources to see what they had. They would also look at barriers to minority inclusion. Flexible hours, creche facilities, transport and access would figure highly. Recruitment and the advertisements for recruitment would be looked at especially in regard to interview and selection procedures. training needs would be analysed to see where blockages occurred. Finally the legal aspects would be analysed to see if the Company was complying with the employment laws. Ins terms of your questions, sorry they seem off beam on EEO. I'd say b and c+d, good practise anyway. The other practises could reduce EEO take up.

The media has vast influence over our perceptions of which breeds of dogs are dangerous, as they decide which dog attack stories to publish. With over 4.7 million dog bites recorded each year in the United States and with over 800,000 of these attacks serious enough to require medical attention, the resources for dog-bite stories appear unlimited. Yet, the media seems to delight in Pit bull related stories, so much so, that in their haste to report the latest Pit bull attack story the truth often takes a backseat to sensationalism.

Listed below is a small sampling of inaccurate and misleading media accounts that have caused irreparable damage to the image of Pit Bulls:

[This child was not killed by a Pit Bull, nor a Bull Terrier, nor a "family" dog. How the dog came to be labelled a "Pit bull" is unexplained. The owner described the dog to be a Labrador/Mastiff/Rottweiler cattle dog. The dog was used to herd cattle and was kept chained on the property. Animal control and the Alachua Sheriff's office confirm the dog was a mixed breed. Photographs of the dog reveal no discernable breed.]

Another serious problem with the image of Pit Bulls is the over-reporting of Pit Bull attacks vs. other breed attacks. Unquestionably, a disporportionate amount of media attention is given to Pit Bull attacks. One example of this is a recent fatal attack in Detroit by a Pit Bull. This story ran in over 30 separate national newspapers and was also picked up by FOX news, CNN and two British newspapers. Two weeks earlier a man was KILLED by his German Shepherd Dog and this story ran only in the local community newspaper.

Pit Bulls in particular have been in a firestorm of bad publicity, and throughout the country Pit Bulls often bear the brunt of breed specific legislation. One severe or fatal attack can result in either restrictions or outright banning of this breed (and other breeds) in a community. While any severe or fatal attack on a person is tragic, there is often a tragic loss of perspective as to degree of dangerousness associated with this breed in reaction to a fatality. Virtually any breed of dog can be implicated in a human fatality.

From 1965 - 2001, there have been at least 36 different breeds/types of dog that have been involved in a fatal attack in the United States. (This number rises to at least 52 breeds/types when surveying fatal attacks worldwide). We are increasingly becoming a society that has less and less tolerance and understanding of natural canine behaviors. Breed specific behaviors that have been respected and selected for over the centuries are now often viewed as unnatural or dangerous. Dogs have throughout the centuries served as protectors and guardians of our property, possessions and

families. Dogs have also been used for thousands of years to track, chase and hunt both large and small animals. These natural and selected-for canine behaviors seem to now eliciting fear, shock and a sense of distrust among many people.

There seems to be an ever growing expectation of a "behaviorally homogenized" dog - "Benji" in the shape of a Rottweiler. Breeds of dogs with greater protection instincts or an elevated prey-drive are often unfairly viewed as "aggressive or dangerous". No breed of dog is inherently vicious, as all breeds of dogs were created and are maintained exclusively to serve and co-exist with humans. The problem exists not within the breed of dog, but rather within the owners that fail to control, supervise,

maintain and properly train the breed of dog they choose to keep.

CANINE AGGRESSION - AN OVERVIEW

It is important to emphasize that dogs bite today for the same reasons that they did one hundred or one thousand years ago. Dogs are no more dangerous today than they were a century or millennium ago. They only difference is a shift in human perception of what is and is not natural canine behavior and/or aggression and the breed of dog involved.

Examination of newspaper archival records dating back to the 1950s and 1960s reveal the same types of severe and fatal attacks occurring then as today. The only difference is the breed of dog responsible for these events. A random study of 74 severe and fatal attacks reported in the Evening Bulletin (Philadelphia, PA) from 1964-1968, show no severe or fatal attacks by Rottweilers and only one attack attributed to a Pit-Bull-type dog. The dogs involved in most of these incidents were the breeds that were popular at the time.

Over two thousand years ago, Plato extolled a basic understanding of canine behavior when he wrote "the disposition of noble dogs is to be gentle with people they know and the opposite with those they dont know...." Recently, this fundamental principal of canine behavior seems to elude many people as parents allow their children to be unsupervised with unfamiliar dogs and lawmakers clamor to declare certain dogs as dangerous in response to an attack.

Any dog, regardless of breed, is only as dangerous as his/her owner allows it to be.

Addressing the issue of severe and fatal dog attacks as a breed specific problem is akin to treating the symptom and not the disease. Severe and fatal attacks will continue until we come to the realization that allowing a toddler to wander off to a chained dog is more of a critical factor in a fatal dog attack than which breed of dog is at the end of the chain.

MEDIA LIES

The media is so slanted, readers practically need

climbing equipment!

It can't be stated any more plainly:

"If you only know what you hear or read in the media,

you really don't know much."

After one too many slanted, misleading, grossly

inaccurate or just plain dishonest dog bite reports in

the media, we thought it high time to 'pull back the

curtain on the wizard' and prove 'the emperor has no

clothes.'

The headlines screamed: another ghastly 'pit bull'

attack in Ontario. In this case, a Shih Tzu was the

intended victim. It's owner, a hapless casualty.

Pretty much every media agency in the region covered

the following story. ...Repeatedly. ...Ad nauseam.

"Those awful 'pit bulls'; attacking innocent people

and dogs. You never hear of a Labrador or a Golden

Retriever involved in these kinds of incidents."

On February 14, 2006, Tarra Barnett was walking her

'pit bull' along Danforth Rd. in Scarborough, when it

bolted and attacked a Shih Tzu being walked by its

owner. The Shih Tzu didn't survive. Its owner also

suffered minor injuries in the attack.

According to neighbours, Ms. Barnett's dog was known

to be aggressive. According to witnesses, the 'pit

bull' may have been off-leash and unmuzzled prior to

the attack.

March 11, 2006, Ms. Barnett was charged with

'unlawfully causing bodily harm' and 'common

nuisance', in relation to this incident.

Sounds alright, huh? An important story that deserves

reporting.

Well...it would be...if the media was truly unbiased.

It is obvious that, like so many stories before it,

this one was headline news for some time, because it

involved a 'pit bull'. Want proof?

March 2, 2006, two Labrador Retriever mixes, known to

be aggressive, were again "terrorizing the

neighbourhood" in Port Colborne, Ontario. The two

dogs attacked and killed a Pomeranian chained in its

yard, then moved on to attack a 'pit bull' before

being corralled.

Only two local (Welland area) newspapers carried this

story...once. Only a muzzle order for the dogs and

talks of a fine were mentioned as possible punishments

for the owners. No headlines. No criminal charges.

No media blitz.

So, do you still think the media is a reliable source

for information? If so, we have a lovely bridge that

might interest you.

These two stories are nearly identical. They both

involved unprovoked attacks that led to the death of a

dog. They both involved dogs with a known history of

aggression. They both involved negligent owners. The

story involving the 'pit bull' was headline news. The

one involving the Labs? Well...it never made any

headlines, and is all but forgotten, just a few days

afterwards.

The media picks and chooses its stories, not for their

"newsworthiness", but for their ability to attract

readers/viewers/listeners which, in turn, allows them

to claim higher ratings, and charge more for

advertising space. It's business. Plain and simple.

We've been told outright,

"If it doesn't involve a 'pit bull', it's not 'news'."

In reality, non-'pit bull' dogs are responsible for

90-100% of bites, attacks, and fatalities in Canada.

...But you'll never hear that on the evening news.

In order to provide a more balanced view of dog biting

incidents, below is a sampling of stories you probably

didn't see reported in the media:

March 10, 2006, a Jack Russell Terrier was ordered to

attack a man, nearly severing his penis, which was

successfully reattached by doctors.

March 8, 2006, a 17-month-old was mauled by the

family’s Labrador Retriever.

March 7, 2006, a police officer shot a Ridgeback mix

dog after it attacked another dog and menaced the

officer. There was a brief report in the media, in

which the owner-confirmed “Ridgeback mix” was

described as a “pit bull look-alike”. (Good grief!!!)

March 6, 2006, a man and woman were sent to hospital

after being attacked by their German Shepherd Dog.

March 4, 2006, two Labrador Retriever mixes killed a

chained Pomeranian, then attacked a ‘pit bull’, during

a neighbourhood wide rampage in Port Colborne,

Ontario. The dogs were frequently at-large, and known

to be aggressive. No penalties against the dogs’

owner has been announced since the attacks, despite

provincial law allowing up to $10,000 in fines, or six

months in jail for this kind of offense.

March 2, 2006, a 6-year-old girl underwent surgery to

repair injuries suffered in an attack by her

grandparents’ Husky/Chow mix.

March 2, 2006, a Great Dane killed its owner and

severely injured her relative, while he was chained to

the porch, in a small Texas town.

March 1, 2006, a 16-month-old girl was attacked by her

family’s St. Bernard.

March 1, 2006, a Springer Spaniel suffered severe

injuries after being attacked by a mixed-breed,

off-leash dog in a conservation area. The owners of

the attacking dog refused to identify themselves or

offer assistance before fleeing the scene.

A police dog, a Belgian Malinois, was accused of

excessive force after refusing to let go of a suspect

in 2003, only to go on to attack a police officer in

October of 2005. In that incident, the dog simply

attacked the officer unprovoked while she was guarding

evidence at a crime scene. When the officer was

unable to shake free, she pulled her weapon and shot

the dog. Still, the dead dog’s jaws had to be pried

off the officer’s arm.

February 26, 2006, an Edmonton boy was mauled by his

family’s Golden Retriever, leaving him in serious

condition in hospital.

February 24, 2006, a St. Bernard/Mastiff mix attacked

an American Eskimo dog and its owner.

February 22, 2006, an Alabama girl had to undergo

hours of surgery to close the gaping wound that

exposed the victim’s jaw bone. A Labrador Retriever

attacked the girl while she was petting it at a pet

expo.

February 17, 2006, a third grader required 68 stitches

to repair the damage caused by a Golden Retriever that

attacked the girl on her way home from school.

February 9, 2006, a six-year-old was knocked to the

ground and attacked by a roaming Labrador Retriever.

February, 2006, a 4-year-old boy had to be placed in a

drug induced coma in hospital after being attacked

mauled by stray dogs in Waswanipi, Quebec.

February, 2006, a man was bitten by one of two

Weimaraners being walked by their owner.

After several biting incidents, a man’s Border Collies

have been deemed “dangerous”. No charges have been

filed against the owner.

An Alameda County Deputy District Attorney’s mixed

breed dog (Lab/Shepherd mix) may be ordered destroyed

after numerous biting incidents.

A 2-year-old was left with cuts and puncture wounds to

the face after being attacked by a Jack Russell

Terrier in February, 2006.

In February, 2006, an 18-month-old girl was seriously

bitten by a relative’s Australian Cattle Dog tied on

the property.

In February, 2006, a five-year-old boy required 190

stitches to repair damage to his throat after being

attacked by 2 German Shepherd Dogs on the owner’s

property.

February, 2006, a Garden City, Idaho, police officer

had to shoot the police dog he was training, after it

attacked him and another officer.

In early February, 2006, a 2-year-old girl was left

with a 15cm long gash after being attacked by her

grandmother’s Border Collie.

January 26, 2006, a 2-year-old had her jaw broken and

most of her lower face torn away in an attack by a dog

described only as “a large dog”, in Prince Albert,

Saskatchewan.

After no penalties were laid following a biting

incident involving a 10-year-old girl and a Chow/GSD

mix in December, 2005, the dog bit a second child in

January, 2006; disfiguring the boy’s face by tearing

away a portion of his lip.

In December, 2005, a 90-year-old woman suffered bite

wounds and a broken bone in her back while attempting

to defend her own dog from attack by a Dalmation.

An infant suffered severe head injuries after being

attacked by the family’s Golden Retriever in November,

2005.

In January, 2006, a woman was critically injured in

Del Rey, California, after being attacked by a German

Shepherd and a Chow. Police shot and killed the dogs.

The owners were not charged.

In January, 2006, an 11-year-old girl was savagely

attacked in the face, by an Alaskan Malamute, while

visiting her friend’s home.

A 5-year-old girl was left with severe gashes and 4

missing teeth after being attacked by her

grandmother’s chained, mixed breed (non-‘pit bull’)

dog.

Which dog breed attacks?
Why? ... Because those that are anti-dog know they can get the needs of their agenda met (to ban dogs as pets) by having folks like you make the case that all dogs bite, therefore the pitbull terrier should not be singled out.

If we can agree that all breeds of dogs bite, then as a matter of public safety ... all breeds should be banned. You just made anti-dog proponents very happy! Good for you.

Reply:I am assuming you mean 'why' do you see so many reports of attacks by pit bull or pit bull mix dogs.... This breed has gained popularity with a number of factions that only want vicious dogs so they are being bred indiscrimanently and ignorantly. They are being owned by irresponsible owners that don't know how to train their own selves much less an animal that can out think them. So you have many dogs that will attack because they are breed ignorantly and unstable. There are representatives of the breed that are not unstable or ignorantly bred but the vast majority of those being bred and owned at this time are being poorly bred and the temperament goes by the wayside. With the rise of popularity and irresponsible owners will come these attacks. Just the way it is.

add: NO it is not 'just America' - these breeds are actually banned in many parts of Europe because ignorance and irresponsibility knows no boundaries. Actually the restrictions on breeds/dogs are much more stringent in other countries than in America right now because of many serious bite incidents. Reply:Thank you for this post. I LOVE it!!! I think the media prematurely headlines ANY dog related case as a "PIT BULL ATTACK!!!" Because it gets attention. They are all just competing for ratings, and ALL pit bulls suffer from this. I am so glad I read this. Thank you again for posting it.

*I still think some people are set in their ways, and will ignore every bit of this. They continue to believe what they want to believe, and ignore the information layed out in front of them.

** I just wanted to add one more thing that just came to my mind. I am a veterinary technician, and I went to a two day seminar about animal behavior. The animal behaviorist that was teaching us gave MANY examples, and showed many videos of dangerously aggressive dogs that they had worked with. You know, Not One of the dogs was a Pit Bull. She does positive reenforcement training, clicker training, desensitization, socialization, and other positive ways of behavior modification. She said that Pit Bulls are actually one of the easiest breeds to work with because of their high drive to please people.

There is a lady who has been in the news a lot because she had a face transplant in France. She got mauled by her own dog...it was a lab.

It's because of what the previous poster said..sensationalism. Children get molested all the time and that's very sad but if a teacher or priest does it, you can bet it's going to make national news. It's the same with dog attacks. They happen all the time but if it's a pitbull..it makes national headlines..

Reply:As pointed out in your very long question, any dog breed can attack. It depends on how they are raised and trained.
Reply:A dog that is not trained properly, socialized correctly, or given proper leadership throughout his life is very likely to attack.

Dogs attack to protect themselves and/or their people, not just because of their breed or gender.

Pit Bulls were originally bred to FIGHT, so yes, there are still some of these lines in today's pit bulls. But if you get a Pit Bull puppy and correctly train and socialize him, he will grow to become a well-mannered canine citizen. Those who purchase Pit Bull puppies who still have fighting lines in their genes, and then proceed to NOT properly raise and train it, will most likely subsequently have an unruly dog on their hands who is more likely to bite when provoked, no matter how big or small the prompt is.

If you train your dog to attack, he will attack.

If you train your dog to have manners and act appropriately around ALL situations, he will be a well-behaved dog.

The more a dog is abused, mistreated, ignored, taunted, and so on, the more likely he is to attack.

Reply:where were you last year. lol. I did on a project on dog attacks. I am still not entirely sure why pit bulls get the most attention. Truth is they are actually very sweet dogs, it's just that most people train them to fight other dogs, and just like any animal that has been abused, they will either become aggressive toward people or be afraid of them. There are a lot of stories about dog attacks, and they are not all pit bull ones. It is a shame though that they are categorized in such a way due to some people's cruelty. Reply:Because when any animal is threatened they have a defense. Dogs attack for a reason, instinct or they were taught how to do this. Alot of times the only reason people can now tell a Chihuahua from a GSD is because of Paris Hilton. Its funny, you can ask 100 people if they can pick the pitbull, they can't. Education is our failure here, everyone. If you are going to own animals, research them. Not only the breed but the species. It can't hurt.

Reply:Dogs attacking humans has nothing to do with breed. It has to do with poor handling. I've seen chichi's that will attack, but they are so small nobody notices. The problems with pits is they are very dedicated to holding on and have the strongest bites in the canine world. The media has zeroed in on them because so many of the wrong kind of people favor them for their illegal activities. They are what they are, it's just ashame people abuse their abilities.

Reply:Because blood and drama sell papers and net viewers. People don't want to hear about all the good and positive things that happen on a daily basis, they want their daily dose of drama.

Pits are also generally associated with society's "bad" crowd. They are lumped in with the whole gangsta, ghetto tough guy image. People around here have trouble believing that I, a 25yo white middle-class female would even WANT to share my home with one of 'those' dogs.

There are no easy answers, I wish there were. I wish that I could come up with that one thing, that one idea that would stop the public vilification of my chosen breed. I do my part by fighting BSL where ever it pops up, by training my girl to be a breed ambassador, by taking her into the public as a true example of what the breed should be. She's a registered therapy dog, has her CGC, TT and a ton of obedience titles but I still have to worry about waking up tomorrow and losing her to a breed ban. Reply:Any dog will attack, it is the severity of the attack. A bite is a lot different then being malled and having your own dog killed for trying to stop it.

Pits do go off in my opinion more often and more severe that most other breeds.

I am not trying to say that a pit is a bad dog but it does need more attention and training than most people are willing to give them.

I do not compost as i live in the city and feel like there is not enough room in the yard. Also i am concerned about smelling the block up.

I've had a compost garden since I took Environmental Science last year. I also collect the water from my eave spout for watering plants.

I normally don't when I brush my teeth, no, but I do turn off items when I'm done using them and about once a month we use oil lamps to conserve energy. We make it a game, pretending electricity wasn't invented yet.

Yes, we don't own any regular light bulbs; all of them are compact fluorescent. ( I wrote a paper on this a year ago... you really can save approximately $ 33.00 annually by switching over- After the Compact's have paid themselves off!

I just tried washing my comforter with baking soda instead of detergent (fewer pollutants. The comforter smells FRESHER, looks cleaner, and I could tell during the rinse cycle it worked better (plus baking soda is cheaper). Global warming is a serious problem. I never thought I’d turn into a “Green” nerd, but really… it wouldn’t make sense not too.

Ok I'm not full of myself and I'm still amazed that when I'm at grocery store or get a delivery for pizza or at college or mall that people say I'm really model like pretty...........Well I don't think EVERY guy likes me but for some reason when I get guy friends or meet new guys through friends........I hear that they might have a crush on me. How do I know for sure? example: this newer guy I'm talking to and who bought me and a guy a ticket to a movie keeps emailing me and when I do surveys on myspace he sends the surveys with his answers on it to me instead of posting it on bulletin for other people to see....plus in car he looked concerned when I was mad at the other guy n we talked for awhile about it. How do I know if he or other guys like me for sure?

Weve been together for about 4 months...he moved in about a month and a half ago, he is 34, im 25...it all went downhill surprise surprise as soon as he moved in (i never wanted him to in the first place)...ive done some pretty immature and stupid things since ive moved in...such as drinking and crying for two hours, etc...but it all stemmed from something he had done...such as seeing condoms in his see-through travel bag..which he didnt use and they were old but it still upset me...i went out of town a few days ago to visit my family after an awesome weekend, we went to a wedding...he carried around my wine glass, kissed me...grabbed my hand when other guys talked to me...kept hugging me before i left to go home to visit my family...today, i noticed on his myspace that he did one of the surveys and answered the question that asked what age did he want to be when he had children...he said he has to find the mother first and ask her, the other half of the orange...he also wrote a bulletin titled E-...he said, i have no clue how to contact you and myspace is not helping...see he asked out this girl named Elizabeth on there 2 weeks ago (we were fighting at the time...and hes jealous of my guy friends although he encourages me to hang out with them), he apologized to me and said they never met up...one of her friends left a nasty comment after him so im assuming she doesnt really like him...anyway...who is this E- person? There is no one on his friends list with that first letter in their name...did he just do that bc he thought i would see and get jealous and ask about it and think it was this Elizabeth girl? Hes 34 for Christs sake! I sent him a text message yesterday saying i missed him and he never responded. Im just sad, i want to be the other half...i would make a good wife and mother of his children...God im pathetic...

the only way you can stop his games is to stop being a participant in them. To be honest I think you guys moved too fast. You had only been together 3 months before he moved in. You said that you didn't want him to but still he did. You have control over what happens. If you don't like something then change it. You guys needed more time to get to know each other before moving in together which can be very emotional and it tests the relationship
Reply:Yes... sorry to say it. You'd think a 34 year old man would be mature. But no. He is totally disrespecting you. He is with you but says that you're not the one, and he's possesive of you, but pursues other girls. The only thing i can tell you is that he doesn't deserve you. When he does, you should talk about everything that bothers you, and if he doesn't comply or at least try to be understanding, dump him. His bad behaviour has got to stop. And if he's saying he wants to be with you, he shouldn't be saying that he hasn't met his other half. I mean, if he doesn't think you are it, then what's the point? He's just abusing you emotionally by doing this. Countless times i've taken back my boyfriend without him aknowledging that what he's doing is wrong, cause i just want to stop fighting and be with him, and he has never changed a thing.

I know that you want to be with him, but, think about it, he's treating you like crap, he asked out another girl. It's stupid to try to make you jealous if he knows you already want to be with him. I think he just likes all the attention he gets from you. He probably doesn't really like himself very much, and gets a high out making you feel bad and still have you chase after him.

The only way i can think of to make the mind games stop, is to dump them. I wish there was another way though. If you find it let me know! i am pathetic too... :(

Ok i want to ask this girl out but baiscally know i will get a no. She has said to me and in surveys she has taken that she doesnt want a boyfriend. Now she posted a bulletin chain letter thing that says her crushes name has 5 letters. I am basically her only friend that has 5 letters for there name, thats a guy. Is there a way i can find out without letting her know i like her?

How can i find out?
Other than flirting and seeing how she reacts, no, I can't think of a way. Except maybe creating another bulletin and asking for the first letter of her crush's last name, but that still wouldn't give you a definite answer. Your best bet is to take the leap and ask.

lol I"m 20 but anyway..........this 24 year old guy ummm I just added him to my myspace I met him through a guy......well this guy emails me his surveys with his answers after I do surveys and instead of him posting it on a bulletin for everyone to see he sends his answers to me.......and he's been pretty open about his past with me lately. lol I"m 20 but anyway..........this 24 year old guy ummm I just added him to my myspace I met him through a guy......well this guy emails me his surveys with his answers after I do surveys and instead of him posting it on a bulletin for everyone to see he sends his answers to me.......and he's been pretty open about his past with me lately. Plus he commented on a photo I took of him and this other guy who is his friend and in the comment he says......I look horrible in this I hate when my pic is taken........I can tell he wanted me to say oh no you don't you look FINE lol! Why dont more people care?

I want to do my part. I signed up with One.Org, Im on myspace so I sent out an e-mail asking for support. It was incredible to me the response. I had about 5 people sign up. That alone is amazing, but what about everyone else? I dont get it. I dont see how people can turn away, there is so much suffering, so many lives that are lost each day. It's sad, I get these bulletin posts like, "Are you my friend? if you really are repost this!" and "Survey!" These are insulting when I beg for support from friends I grew up with, people I've known for years...No reply, are we so self involved that we cant take a few minutes out of our day to save lives? To TRY and stop this disease? Im at a loss for words. Someone please explain how this could be. WHY DONT MORE PEOPLE CARE???

Why dont more people care?
A lot of people don't care because they just don't know. Most people won't get passionate about a cause until it touches them personally. So many of us have never experienced, or even seen, actual poverty, so we think it isn't an issue anymore. People think that wanting a job makes one appear and that all jobs mean decent quality of life for the employee. Nevermind that people who work full time for minimum wage can still live in poverty.

It may seem like you're fighting this battle alone, but please know that you aren't and that even by yourself, you are making a difference.

Okay, well on myspace I posted one of those "fill out surveys" for your friends to do, in a bulletin. Now, this guy that people say likes me, (But I can't really tell if that's true or not, because we're good friends...you know what I mean? Maybe he's just nice.) replied to this. There's like 35 questions, but the one that's bugging me is this one:

So if you have a myspace or some similar web thingy like it, and someone you know puts those cheesy surveys that go on your blog or whatever, the bulletin I think it is, and it asks you who you have a crush on.

Of the people who actually do them, how many put who they have a crush on in all seriousness? Or, like you put one up for people to answer about you and it asks "do you like me/crush on me?" honestly, who answers that. I don't! (okay, this is sounding kind of like a rant, sorry. I've just been getting tired of seeing those surveys and was wondering.)

Overview

Instant messaging (IM) and chat are technologies that facilitate near real-time text based communication between two or more participants over a network. It is important to understand that what separates chat and instant messaging from technologies such as e-mail is the perceived synchronicity of the communication by the user - Chat happens in real-time before your eyes. For this reason, some people consider communication via instant messaging to be less intrusive than communication via phone. However, some systems allow the sending of messages to people not currently logged on (offline messages), thus removing much of the difference between Instant Messaging and e-mail.

Instant Messaging allows instantaneous communication between a number of parties simultaneously, by transmitting information quickly. Some IM systems allow users to use webcams and Microphone which made them more popular than others. Due to this feature users can have a real-time conversation. In addition IM has additional features such as: the immediate receipt of acknowledgment or reply, group chatting, conference services (including voice and video), conversation logging and file transfer.

IM allows effective and efficient communication, featuring immediate receipt of acknowledgment or reply. In certain cases Instant Messaging involves additional features, which make it even more popular, i.e. to see the other party, e.g. by using web-cams, or to talk directly for free over the Internet.

It is possible to save a conversation for later reference. Instant messages are typically logged in a local message history which closes the gap to the persistent nature of e-mails and facilitates quick exchange of information like URLs or document snippets (which can be unwieldy when communicated via telephone).

In early instant messaging programs each character appeared when it was typed. The UNIX "talk" command shown in these screenshots was popular in the 1980s and early 1990s.Instant messaging actually predates the Internet, first appearing on multi-user operating systems like CTSS and Multics[1] in the mid-1960s. Initially, many of these systems, such as CTSS'.SAVED, were used as notification systems for services like printing, but quickly were used to facilitate communication with other users logged in to the same machine. As networks developed, the protocols spread with the networks. Some of these used a peer-to-peer protocol (eg talk, ntalk and ytalk), while others required peers to connect to a server (see talker and IRC). During the Bulletin board system (BBS) phenomenon that peaked during the 1980s, some systems incorporated chat features which were similar to instant messaging; Freelancin'_Roundtable was one prime example.

In the last half of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, the Quantum Link online service for Commodore 64 computers offered user-to-user messages between currently connected customers which they called "On-Line Messages" (or OLM for short). Quantum Link's better known later incarnation, America Online, offers a similar product under the name "AOL Instant Messages" (AIM). While the Quantum Link service ran on a Commodore 64, using only the Commodore's PETSCII text-graphics, the screen was visually divided up into sections and OLMs would appear as a yellow bar saying "Message From:" and the name of the sender along with the message across the top of whatever the user was already doing, and presented a list of options for responding.[2] As such, it could be considered a sort of GUI, albeit much more primitive than the later Unix, Windows and Macintosh based GUI IM programs. OLMs were what Q-Link called "Plus Services" meaning they charged an extra per-minute fee on top of the monthly Q-Link access costs.

Modern, Internet-wide, GUI-based messaging clients, as they are known today, began to take off in the mid 1990s with ICQ (1996) being the first, followed by AOL Instant Messenger (AOL Instant Messenger, 1997). AOL later acquired Mirabilis, the creators of ICQ. A few years later ICQ (by now owned by AOL) was awarded two patents for instant messaging by the U.S. patent office. Meanwhile, other companies developed their own applications (Excite, MSN, Ubique, and Yahoo), each with its own proprietary protocol and client; users therefore had to run multiple client applications if they wished to use more than one of these networks. In 1998 IBM released IBM Lotus Sametime, a product based on technology acquired when IBM bought Haifa-based Ubique and Lexington-based Databeam.

In 2000, an open source application and open standards-based protocol called Jabber was launched. Jabber servers could act as gateways to other IM protocols, reducing the need to run multiple clients. Multi-protocol clients such as Digsby,Pidgin, Trillian, Adium and Miranda can use any of the popular IM protocols by using additional local libraries for each protocol. IBM Lotus Sametime's November 2007 release added IBM Lotus Sametime Gateway support for XMPP.

Recently, many instant messaging services have begun to offer video conferencing features, Voice Over IP (VoIP) and web conferencing services. Web conferencing services integrate both video conferencing and instant messaging capabilities. Some newer instant messaging companies are offering desktop sharing, IP radio, and IPTV to the voice and video features.

The term "instant messenger" is a service mark of Time Warner[3] and may not be used in software not affiliated with AOL in the United States. For this reason, the instant messaging client formerly known as Gaim or gaim announced in April 2007 that they would be renamed "Pidgin"[4].

Standard free instant messaging applications offer functions like file transfer, contact lists, the ability to have similtaneous converstations etc. These may be all the functions that a small business needs but larger organisations will require more sophisticated applications that can work together. The solution to finding applications capable of this is to use enterprise versions of instant messaging applications. These include titles like Jabber, Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Office Communicator, etc., which are often integrated with other enterprise applications such as workflow systems. These enterprise applications, or Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), are built to certain constraints, namely storing data in a common format.

There have been several attempts to create a unified standard for instant messaging: IETF's SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and SIMPLE (SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions), APEX (Application Exchange), Prim (Presence and Instant Messaging Protocol), the open XML-based XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol), more commonly known as Jabber and OMA's (Open Mobile Alliance) IMPS (Instant Messaging and Presence Service) created specifically for mobile devices.

Most attempts at creating a unified standard for the major IM providers (AOL, Yahoo! and Microsoft) have failed and each continues to use its own proprietary protocol.

However, while discussions at IETF were stalled, Reuters head of collaboration services, David Gurle (the founder of Microsoft's Real Time Communication and Collaboration business), signed the first inter-service provider connectivity agreement on September 2003. This agreement enabled AIM, ICQ and MSN Messenger users to talk with Reuters Messaging counterparts and vice-versa against an access fee. Following this, Microsoft, Yahoo! and AOL came to a deal where Microsoft's Live Communication Server 2005 users would also have the possibility to talk to public instant messaging users. This deal established SIP/SIMPLE as a standard for protocol interoperability and established a connectivity fee for accessing public instant messaging clouds. Separately, on October 13, 2005 Microsoft and Yahoo! announced that by (the Northern Hemisphere) summer of 2006 they would interoperate using SIP/SIMPLE which is followed on December 2005 by the AOL and Google strategic partnership deal where Google Talk users would be able to talk with AIM and ICQ users provided they have an identity at AOL.

There are two ways to combine the many disparate protocols:

One way is to combine the many disparate protocols inside the IM client application.

The other way is to combine the many disparate protocols inside the IM server application. This approach moves the task of communicating to the other services to the server. Clients need not know or care about other IM protocols. For example, LCS 2005 Public IM Connectivity. This approach is popular in Jabber/XMPP servers however the so-called transport projects suffer the same reverse engineering difficulties as any other project involved with closed protocols or formats.

Some approaches, such as that adopted by the Sonork enterprise IM software or the Jabber/XMPP network or Winpopup LAN Messenger, allow organizations to create their own private instant messaging network by enabling them to limit access to the server (often with the IM network entirely behind their firewall) and administer user permissions. Other corporate messaging systems allow registered users to also connect from outside the corporation LAN, by using a secure firewall-friendly HTTPS based protocol. Typically, a dedicated corporate IM server has several advantages such as pre-populated contact lists, integrated authentication, and better security and privacy.

Some networks have made changes to prevent them from being utilized by such multi-network IM clients. For example, Trillian had to release several revisions and patches to allow its users to access the MSN, AOL, and Yahoo! networks, after changes were made to these networks. The major IM providers typically cite the need for formal agreements as well as security concerns as reasons for making these changes.

Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) is a presence enabled messaging service that aims to transpose the desktop messaging experience to the usage scenario of being on the move. While several of the core ideas of the desktop experience on one hand apply to a connected mobile device, others do not: Users usually only look at their phone's screen — presence status changes might occur under different circumstances as happens at the desktop, and several functional limits exist based on the fact that the vast majority of mobile communication devices are chosen by their users to fit into the palm of their hand. Some of the form factor and mobility related differences need to be taken into account in order to create a really adequate, powerful and yet convenient mobile experience: radio bandwidth, memory size, availability of media formats, keypad based input, screen output, CPU performance and battery power are core issues that desktop device users and even nomadic users with connected network.

Instant messaging has proven to be similar to personal computers, e-mail, and the WWW, in that its adoption for use as a business communications medium was driven primarily by individual employees using consumer software at work, rather than by formal mandate or provisioning by corporate information technology departments. Tens of millions of the consumer IM accounts in use are being used for business purposes by employees of companies and other organizations.

In response to the demand for business-grade IM and the need to ensure security and legal compliance, a new type of instant messaging, called "Enterprise Instant Messaging" ("EIM") was created when Lotus Software launched IBM Lotus Sametime in 1998. Microsoft followed suit shortly thereafter with Microsoft Exchange Instant Messaging, later created a new platform called Microsoft Office Live Communications Server, and released Office Communications Server 2007 in October 2007. Both IBM Lotus and Microsoft have introduced federation between their EIM systems and some of the public IM networks so that employees may use a single interface to both their internal EIM system and their contacts on AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!. Current leading EIM platforms include IBM Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Office Communications Server, and Jabber XCP. In addition, industry-focused EIM platforms such as IMtrader from Pivot Incorporated, Reuters Messaging, and Bloomberg Messaging provide enhanced IM capabilities to financial services companies.

The adoption of IM across corporate networks outside of the control of IT organizations creates risks and liabilities for companies who do not effectively manage and support IM use. Companies implement specialized IM archiving and security products and services like those from Secure Computing, Akonix, SurfControl, and ScanSafe to mitigate these risks and provide safe, secure, productive instant messaging capabilities to their employees.

The popular embrace of IM technology for sharing information has quickly led to organizations adopting IM solutions for the perceived advantages that can be brought by it. As organizations are becoming more information based (McNurlin %26amp; Sprague, 2006, p.499) the need for effective knowledge sharing, team working and collaborative environments amongst employees has become vital, especially within more geographically dispersed teams.

Typically IM conversations tend to have a certain "character", they are often short and only cover one topic. Media-switching and multitasking are common throughout, however IM might also be used between established coworkers and friends for longer, more intermittent conversation. In their report of IM use at the workplace Nardi et al. (2000) identifies the four primary functions of IM which are often cited in other reports, These primary functions are:

Quick Questions and Clarifications

Coordinating and scheduling tasks

Coordinating impromptu social meetings

Keeping in touch with friends and family

IM is perhaps best suited to "Quick Questions and Clarifications" as this is the most often mentioned attribute in other reports. A user can "respond rapidly without the overhead of telephone or FTF interaction. For example, IDC reports, "Users see IM as a medium for quick, semi-permanent ‘flashes’ that beg a near-immediate response" (Isaacs et al., 2002). Nardi's second and third observations are enabled in part due to the "Presence Awareness" feature of IM clients in which the user knows who is "available". This is the most relevant for colleagues who share the same physical space as each other and even paves the way for other mediums to take up the task of communication e.g. F2F or Phone. The implication is that viable communication of any sort can in someway be encouraged through IM's "Presence Awareness" feature. (Issacs et al, 2002) supports this view, "IM in business might not be the main tool for of communication, it could just be the meeting point for another type of media e.g. conference calls.

Nardi's third and fourth observations focus on the social use of IM, which have also been widely publicized in other report. That IM is used for keeping in touch with friends and arranging social events has led some employers to believe that it is used primarily for this purpose. According to (Issacs et al, 2002) a market study found that "'Fear of losing employee productivity’ was the greatest concern of businesses in regards to instant messaging".

The study by (Issacs et al, 2002) goes on to suggest this fear is unfounded as it was found that on average "only 13% of conversations contained personal topics", and "only 6.4% were exclusively personal".

"IM solutions can typically be catagorised into two types: Enterprise Instant Messaging (EIM) and Consumer Instant Mesaging (CIM). Enterprise solutions use an internal IM server, however this isn't always feasible, particularly for smaller businesses with limited budgets. The second option, using a (CIM) provides the advantage of being inexpensive to implement and has little need for investing in new hardware or server software. However, in recent years open source IM clients such as Jabber have emerged that provide free EIM grade solutions. (Wikipedia,. 2008)

For corporate use encryption and conversation archiving are usually regarded as important features due to security concerns. Sometimes the use of different operating systems in organizations calls for the use of software that supports more than one platform. For example many software companies use Windows XP in administration departments but have software developers who use Linux.

Most people have had experience of using online chat and messaging over the internet whether it is with Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger, Skype or e-mail. One form of chat and messaging currently popular is Bebo. It is a non-corporate form of messaging which allows its user to create and maintain a social network. Libraries use chat applications and Morris Messenger is an application commonly used by them. This is a power based instant messenger, which uses Perl, SQL, and small Java. It accepts input from both staff and regular customers and saves important information in an SQL database built for the system.

Although instant messaging delivers many benefits, it also carries with it certain risks and liabilities, particularly when used in workplaces. Among these risks and liabilities are:

Security risks (e.g. IM used to infect computers with spyware, viruses, trojans, worms)

Compliance risks

Inappropriate use

Intellectual property leakage

Crackers (malicious "hacker" or black hat hacker) have consistently used IM networks as vectors for delivering phishing attempts, "poison URL's", and virus-laden file attachments from 2004 to the present, with over 1100 discrete attacks listed by the IM Security Center[5] in 2004-2007. Hackers use two methods of delivering malicious code through IM: delivery of virus, trojan, or spyware within an infected file, and the use of "socially engineered" text with a web address that entices the recipient to click on a URL that connects him or her to a website that then downloads malicious code. Viruses, worms, and trojans typically propagate by sending themselves rapidly through the infected user's buddy list. An effective attack using a poison URL may reach tens of thousands of people in minutes when each person's buddy list receives messages appearing to be from a trusted friend. The recipients click on the web address, and the entire cycle starts again. Infections may range from nuisance to criminal, and are becoming more sophisticated each year.

In addition to the malicious code threat, the use of instant messaging at work also creates a risk of non-compliance to laws and regulations governing the use of electronic communications in businesses. In the United States alone there are over 10,000 laws and regulations related to electronic messaging and records retention.[6] The more well-known of these include the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPAA, and SEC 17a-3. Clarification from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority ("FINRA") was issued to member firms in the financial services industry in December, 2007, noting that "electronic communications", "email", and "electronic correspondence" may be used interchangeably and can include such forms of electronic messaging as instant messaging and text messaging.[7] Changes to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, effective December 1, 2006, created a new category for electronic records which may be requested during discovery (law) in legal proceedings. Most countries around the world also regulate the use of electronic messaging and electronic records retention in similar fashion to the United States. The most common regulations related to IM at work involve the need to produce archived business communications to satisfy government or judicial requests under law. Many instant messaging communications fall into the category of business communications that must be archived and retrievable.

Organizations of all types must protect themselves from the liability of their employees' inappropriate use of IM. The informal, immediate, and ostensibly anonymous nature of instant messaging makes it a candidate for abuse in the workplace. The topic of inappropriate IM use became front page news in October 2006 when Congressman Mark Foley resigned his seat after admitting sending offensive instant messages of a sexual nature to underage former House pages from his Congressional office PC. The Mark Foley Scandal led to media coverage and mainstream newspaper articles warning of the risks of inappropriate IM use in workplaces. In most countries, corporations have a legal responsibility to ensure harassment-free work environment for employees. The use of corporate-owned computers, networks, and software to harass an individual or spread inappropriate jokes or language creates a liability for not only the offender but also the employer. A survey by IM archiving and security provider Akonix Systems, Inc. in March 2007 showed that 31% of respondents had been harassed over IM at work.[8] Companies now include instant messaging as an integral component of their policies on appropriate use of the World Wide Web, e-mail, and other corporate assets.

Within the company there is also the risk of employees using instant messaging to release confidential information and project details to an outside source. This issue is best controlled by a combination of written policy and technology. An organization's policies on use of IM in the workplace should be an integral part of the overall computing and network use policies, and should be published and communicated at least annually. In addition to written policy, organizations should implement "gateways" or IM security products to monitor content of inbound and outbound messages. Products from IM security providers (See section on IM security) typically allow administrators to set alerts and enforce policy (i.e. allow or block messages) based on keywords and regular expressions within instant messages.

Employees may also misuse IM to communicate on a personal level with friends and family. This is poor use of a business’s time and resources, as the employee’s effectiveness will most certainly decrease due to the added distractions. (Licari, J., May 2005). Businesses often use IM security products to monitor and archive IM conversations for the purpose of minimizing this type of productivity drain.

In the early 2000s, a new class of IT security provider emerged to provide remedies for the risks and liabilities faced by corporations who chose to use IM for business communications. The IM security providers created new products to be installed in corporate networks for the purpose of archiving, content-scanning, and security-scanning IM traffic moving in and out of the corporation. Similar to the e-mail filtering vendors, the IM security providers focus on the risks and liabilities described above.

With rapid adoption of IM in the workplace, demand for IM security products began to grow in the mid-2000s. By 2007, the preferred platform for the purchase of security software had become the "appliance", according to IDC, who estimate that by 2008, 80% of network security products will be delivered via an appliance.[9]

Note that many of the numbers listed in this section are not directly comparable, and some are speculative. Some instant messaging systems are distributed among many different instances and thus difficult to measure in total (e.g. Jabber). While some numbers are given by the owners of a complete instant messaging system, others are provided by commercial vendors of a part of a distributed system. Some companies may be motivated to inflate their numbers in order to increase advertisement earnings or to attract partners, clients, or customers. Importantly, some numbers are reported as the number of "active" users (without a shared standard of that activity), others indicate total user accounts, while others indicate only the users logged in during an instance of peak usage.

A year and a half ago, I met a guy who I thought I could trust with my life. We were in love, and I KNOW we were, and then he had to move like 7 states away!

This might seem weird to you, but please don't make any rude comments on this. Him and I promised each other to like save our virginity for each other, since he'd come every summer down here. But broke up, but we still had the promise. And so, he got a new girlfriend, and a few months after that, he told me he had sex with her. I was left pretty devastated for a while, and never fully recovered. On myspace though, his girlfriend (who is now his ex girlfriend) added me on myspace, and so she posted a survey she took on a bulletin, and one of the questions was: 'are you a virgin?' and she answered: 'yeah.'

And, I'm pretty confused. She's a pretty honest person, so I'm guessing he's the one who lied. Why would someone lie to someone who they 'love sooo much' about this???

Beside the www.experienceproject.com, is there any other site that give you a daily survey? Not just the "yes and no" answer, but to at least really answer the survey, and that's a is a profile site, so your friends can come read your survey without having to email or post a bulletin. And if it allow/give you the html code to put on other profile site also, such as myspace, blogger, fackbook, etc.

www.experienceproject.com is good, but it only give me the "yes" and "no" survey. I want to take a survey and don't have to be daily, just when I'm bored. Thank you!

ok... so I broke up with my ex- boyfriend a few days ago. And I told this guy about the breakup. He just broke up with his girlfriend after Valentine's day a few weeks ago. We have contacted each other by myspace and txting. We haven't really talked face to face even though we have 2 classes together. What's funny is that he is a twin and I used to have a crush on his twin brother before him. Anyways, I really like him. Whenever I see him I get butterflies in my stomach. MySpace Love...Is This Normal?

Hi! I have been dating this girl for 5 weeks now. I am CRAZY about her and she has ALWAYS seemed crazy over me. I trust her and I do love her very VERY much. There's just something bothering me...and I KNOW I'm gonna sound retarded but I'd like to hear from you guys all the same.

Since we first met over 2 months ago we have been INCREDIBLY close. It's just that, recently, the amount of attention she has been giving me on MySpace has dwindled. It used to be that when she'd get online she'd post bulletins and fill out romance surveys and every question she'd answer she'd tie it into how happy she was with me. I'd post bulletins and she'd read them ALL and reply to them with cute things and vice versa...she'd check EVERY MORNING to see if I had posted the night before. Also we'd leave TONS and TONS of long lovey dovey comments to each other...but the past couple weeks she's stopped all this. She hardly posts anything related to me and when she leaves a comment they are short.

Weve been together dating almost 4 months...i said i wasnt ready to define the relationship and he said he felt comfortable with that. We were very committed though. Everything was going great...there were just a few times when we had misunderstandings...one time, he left me a note saying that i didnt trust him and that means im insecure. He moved in and i didnt want him to...i was helping him. He started giving me space and staying gone a lot...i noticed that a few weeks ago on myspace he asked a girl out on a date! I asked him about it and he said they never met up and it wasnt what i thought. I noticed that since ive been gone he has filled out two of her surveys on myspace and posted them as bulletins and then he wrote a bulletin with the subject line E- (the girl he asked out is named Elizabeth) that said "i have no clue how to contact you and myspace is not helping" Why would he need to write a bulletin to contact her, couldnt he just write an email?

Well, I would say that you need to tell her how you feel. It doesn't hurt to tell her. If she is willing enough to make you friends with her, you have nothing to lose. Maybe she likes you. You never know, she may trying a few different guys out to see who asks her out first. This is where you come in, show her how much of a good guy you are. Show her that your caring and are a good friend. Ask her out to a movie together, ask her out to your house, ask her out to a diner and get a coffee, tell her how you feel, you may be suprised at what she says. I think she may have a crush on ya. You have to show her confidence, woman love confidence in a man. Hope this helps.

I got this message about signs that your profile had been stolen, and you're doing the crazy bulliten thing. So here's the instructions on how to fix it.

Have you noticed weird or multiple bulletins posted by your friends lately?

Instead of surveys and games, it looks like they're advertising ringtones for songs they don't even like, or telling you to smoke pot when they're not even a pot smoker?

If so, it probably means their MySpace profile has been stolen, and yours could be next.

Profile thieves are stealing MySpace profiles left and right so they can spam other people, and in some cases, they manage to steal more than just your MySpace.

Here's how they usually steal it:

They post a message, bulletin, or comment containing a Flash file. It might be disguised as a game, or lately there's one that says, "Click here if you like to smoke pot." But in reality, it's just a trap to steal your MySpace.

Without you realizing it, the Flash file automatically redirects you to a different website where the thief has set up a copycat of the MySpace login page. What it looks like to you is, "Oh, stupid MySpace logged me out again." And so you enter your username and password, and bingo -- they just stole your profile. Since you were on a copycat site, it didn't log you in. It just stored the email and password you entered in a big file, and now that profile thief is going to use your account to spam people.

But the danger doesn't end there. The person who stole your profile knows that you can always change your password and lock them out of your account. So now, they try to take over your profile entirely. If they see your email address ends in yahoo.com or hotmail.com, they go to your email login page and try to log in to your email account with the same password. Many people use the same password for their email account and their MySpace profile, and if you're one of those people, now the thief has access to your email, too.

And check this out -- once they have access to your email, they can start sending lost password requests to PayPal, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, eBay, or anywhere else you might have an account, and they can now reset your passwords on other systems, and even change the email address on your MySpace profile to their own address so you can never log in again!

Don't be fooled into thinking that MySpace will let you back in to your profile once it gets stolen and you can no longer log in.

If this happens, MySpace will ask you to send a digital picture of yourself so they can see if you are pictured in the account that you say was stolen. If the spammer has deleted all of the face pics in your profile (which they usually do), then MySpace won't do anything at all because you have no way to prove the profile is really yours.

But if they see your picture in the account you say was stolen, MySpace still won't give you access to the account -- they'll just DELETE IT. And now the spammer can't use it anymore, but you will have lost all of your messages, photos, and comments and you'll have to start all over again.

Here's how you can protect yourself from profile thieves:

1. Change your MySpace password right now. Even if you haven't seen weird bulletins yet, your account info may have been stolen already and the thief just hasn't used it yet. They steal thousands of profiles at a time, and yours could be sitting in some spammer's list just waiting to be hijacked.

2. Change the password to your email address right now. It's no good just changing your MySpace password, because if they can get into your email account, they can still steal your profile.

3. IMPORTANT: Make sure your new email password and your new MySpace password aren't the same!

4. Never click on a link in a bulletin, message, or comment that looks suspicious. It's probably a trap to steal your profile.

5. If it EVER looks like MySpace has logged you out, don't enter your email and password. Instead, type 'www.myspace.com' in the address bar and hit enter to make sure you are still on the real MySpace website and not a copycat site.

6. If you see weird bulletins showing up from your friends, message them right away to tell them their profile has been stolen and advise them to change BOTH their MySpace password and their email account's password. Most people don't see the bulletins their account is posting until it's too late.

7. COPY AND PASTE this whole message into a new bulletin.

A criminal sets up a legitimate-looking website in hopes of tricking the user into supplying secure information. It's a big problem on the internet. I get the occasional email from somebody claiming they're my bank to "log in and correct some account information" Of course, it's just a scam, but dangerous nonetheless.

Additionally, because people have so many registrations with so many websites, they try to simplify things by using only one login/password combination, which is insecure.

My suggestion is to follow the instructions above. Additionally, browsers are implementing features to combat phishing (I know Firefox 2.0 is supposed to help thwart this kind of attack)

I use bulletins as a way to contact all my friends at one time. I don't put things (other than surveys) already made up on them. If I'm going out of town and want everyone to know, I'll send a bulletin or if I have an announcement that I want to share with everyone I'll send a bulletin. I use bulletins so that I don't have to write everyone individually.

so i ended any form of communication there is with this guy that i used to date because he f%*@ing got himself a girlfriend out of nowhere. we used to exchange e-mails on myspace day in and day out before he got into a relationship. to make the long story short, i moved on.

i posted some myspace survey on the bulletins section. the guy that i used to date obviously saw my posting and he answered the darn survey and E-MAILED IT BACK TO ME. this was the first e-mail i got from him since we stopped communicating.

the survey was called NOSY SURVEY. pretty much the question are a bit nosy-- which bed did you sleep in last night, are you in love, do you like someone, when did you lose your virginity, yadiyadiyada... something that a bored person like me would answer. my question is: why the hell let me know of his existence and send me his bull$%*# response ???

Just wondering

She's the best friend I've ever had, and i don't think i could ever have a best friend like her ever. but at the same time, it's stressing me out.

i always feel like i have to talk to her. i'm always asking her to call me and when she does we talk for hours straight(we've talked up to 10 hours in the summer). my family said i've turned them all off just for her and put her in front of my family and stuff. i'm always texting, iming, or talking to her and always want to be doing one of those. i feel furious if i find out something about her that she didn't tell me, and i usually go through myspace bulletins to see her surveys and if she's posted any answer to something like who's your best friend...who's your #1 on your top and stuff like that. but when i talk to her, usually i'm the happiest person in the world. am i being obsessive?

Hey, I'm 14 too! I'm Catholic, go to a Catholic high school [freshman . . eh!], and saw your post about wanting Christian help. Are you an only child? I am and I've been through somewhat the same thing. Not to the extent you are "obsessing," but I know where you've been. If you want, feel free to add me on Yahoo and we can talk in Messenger some time about this. But for now . . . my parents separated when I was 2, divorced when I was 3. They both worked then and both work now. I always longed for a sibling, or at least some kind of human presence around my age - I can remember feeling lonely before I knew what a sibling was, but I just knew I wanted someone to relate to. Since I was a little kid, getting close to people has been easy. I lived with my dad and still do. My mom was the one that moved out and though I'm very close to her and see her every day now, things weren't always like that. I think that's why I made friends and got close to them so easily, especially girls as opposed to guys. I always was looking for someone to be like a mother figure for me and fill the gaps that I felt on the inside. Playing dolls, sing-a-long songs, that kind of thing. I still wish that someone could fill that gap in me. I don't want to do any of that now that I'm older, but I just wish that those gaps could be filled internally. I look to my friends - especially the ones a bit older than me - for the kind of support I didn't get but always needed as a young kid. I have a great couple of friends that I've been with since kindergarten and we still are in school together. They are all older than me [by a couple months, but still] and they give me the support I need. I don't obsess over them, but when I meet someone new that's older than me and is caring and seems maternal, I'm the happiest person in the world around her and then sad and lonely the minute we are separated. I've never for a minute had to worry about the whole homosexual thing because I KNOW that I love God, He loves me, and as long as I follow Him, I'm not going to take that path with my life. I also KNOW that my past has a lot to do with my present. I feel the way I do towards friends (and their moms) because I never had a sibling and missed out on so many years of maternal care that I really needed. Now I see why baby animals fail to thrive without their mothers.

So think about your past. Maybe there's something in it that will reveal the way you act toward your friend now. If not, just realize that you are experiencing true love, true friendship. Love is not just the romantic kind between husband and wife, love is simply selfless giving and putting the other person in the relationship first, above yourself. You care about your friend and hopefully she will continue to be your best friend. If not, people change - you just give the best you've got and be as good of a friend as you can. Some people can't understand it because there's such little true friendship in the world today. But be different. Be you!

Reply:To be honest alot of the answers already given have at least partly got the point. That is it is not fair to focus solely on any one person and depend on them, almost to breathe! It is not fair on the person as they will feel suffocated however much they might care about you. It is not fair on you, as you are missing out on life around you, shutting other people out who are just as important and you are going down a path that sooner or later will lead to pain and hurt.

If you don't end up doing something drastic then your friend will. Stop and think for a moment how much does your friend actually get the chance to talk about their feelings and what goes on in their heart. How much of it is all one sided and about you.

The only real solution to this is to back off. It is hard as alot of your behaviour is so natural to you, that you might not even really be aware of how damaging you really are. If your friend turns round and asks why you have become more distant then explain the reason why. The main thing is that no matter how much a person loves you no one wants to be suffocated. I have been with my partner for over 10 years, but I still know to give them their space, and their room to breathe. loviong someone is not about making it all about you, it is about understanding who they are, as much as them understanding you.

Reply:Sounds to me like you have a "girl crush" that's whn you admire a woman so much that your mind confuses your admiration with the love you seek from a man/woman in a relationship. At times, women tend to become attracted to other women based on personality traits they posses that we wish we had. You admire her, you praise her, and at times I think you wish you where her! I didn't read it all, because it was to much text for me to cypher through, but I think you've got a crush on her, and long to take your "friendship" to the next level.

Women can see the inner beauty in another woman before a man can. Because we think on the same level (well, most of us). You see that she's a kind-hearted, loving, warm-spirited person, and you want so much for someone to love her for who she is. To the point to where, you're almost willing to step up and fill those shoes.

But, I think you've taken it to the next level. To the point where it's almost obsessive compulsive disorder material.

You've allowed yourself to be consumed head first in your desire for a more serious relationship with a man (or woman) to where you're substituting her with the companionship you long to have. I don't think you're dangerous with your obsession, but if you don't get it under control it can turn out that way.

Start to distance yourself from her some. And I know its easier said then done, but start trying to do some activities on your own. Take up a hobby, or get into a club, sport, or involved with in your immediate group of peers. You don't have to cease communications with her, but give her the room, space and respect that you would want someone to give you. The only thing that can help you with this issue is self control. Respect her space, privacy, and friendship, buy not harassing her.

And try to make other friends so that your focus is not fixated on her. You don't have to hold on so tight, if she's truly your best friend, she's not going anywhere, you can let go of her rains and let her graze without you.

Reply:You are definitely putting too much time and effort into your friendship with her. So much so that you may lose her as a friend and never be able to get her back. Being blunt, you need to back off and find other things to keep you busy. This will actually help your friendship because then if she's doing things different from you, then it'll give you both more things to talk about with each other. Like if you both happen to see the same movie, but not together, it's something to talk about. Read a book, go to the mall, etc. Then you both can share the experiences with each other and not run the risk of a friendship burnout where you both become so used to each other that you run out of things to talk about and start to resent each other.

I know it sounds hard, but really, it'll help you more in the long run. Also as someone else said, from what you say, it would seem as though you may be in love with your bff, and not just love her as a friend. It's something else that you may want to think about, because if you are and don't realize it, that could scare her away.

Also, relax. Don't let it stress you out, because when you stress out, you may do something that you'll regret. (I speak from experience.)

Reply:I think something is an obsession if it starts to interfere with your life - and this is. I know people are implying it's a sexual thing but it's not, and it's quite normal to form really strong friendships with someone of the same sex. It is a wonderful, secure and exhilirating thing to know that someone cool wants to be your friend. It helps you define yourself, and to face problems knowing you have her to back you up. Maybe you'd even like to be like her.

Anyway. The stopping part. Well, first you have to tell yourself (and this is completely true) that if you keep on like this she will eventually cut you off. I'm not being mean, she will get scared, or just sick of it, and end the friendship. It is harmful to her, and to you. But if you start controlling your feelings now you have the chance at a great, life-long friendship.

Give yourself some limits and STICK TO THEM. Say one phone call a day and two texts (or whatever). Don't go over that limit. When you want to go over the limit remind yourself that if you do you are jeopardising the friendship.

The other really important thing is to start making new friends and doing stuff for yourself (I don't know, take up a new sport or hobby or whatever gets your mind off your friend). You need to know that you are a valuable person with a life of your own - and then you'll have more to offer her as a friend.

ok, so earlier this month, i decided to tell the guy that i have liked for a long time, that i like him. and then he told me that he just wanted to stay friends. i was hurt by it, and i still am, but i was starting to move on.

but this morning, when i checked my myspace, the guy i like posted a bulletin that was a survey, and one of the questions was:

If someone liked you, would you want them to tell u?

and then his answer was this: ya, and whoever already told me they like me, would u do me a favor and tell me again?! =]

i think he is talking about me. im scared, nervous, and confused.

what does this mean? what shud i do?

I created my own survey and wanted to send it as a Bulletin to the people on my friends list. How do you do it? When I copied it and pasted it into my "about me" section of my profile it looked fine. Yet, when I sent it as a bulletin it looked like another language.

Because it was most likely in HTML (hyper text mark-up language) when you pasted it to your about me section. Myspace.com's server then converts that to normal english, however, HTML isn't meant for bulletins so what you have to dois get all the questions and type them manually into a bulletin.

From what I can tell, your friend should have sent you all 149 things, while only filling in numbers for the things that he or she has lived through. To take it yourself, copy the whole of it into a text-editor or wordprocessor, clear out the numbers in the "boxes" (between the square brackets), and then fill in the numbers for yourself.

If your friend didn't send you all 149 events, you can do a search for "I have lived through" "of these 149 things" to find other people who have filled it out, and you can get the full list from one of them.

I have known this boy for awhile now. We are pretty good friends. The thing is, I REALLY like him. I mean I am nearly in love with this boy. But, I am too afraid to tell him. On his Myspace survey in his bulletin it says that he likes someone far away. So, I know it isn't me.

Because we live close to each other. And, I am just afraid of him rejecting Me. It seems like everytime I do something, I always think of him. No matter what it is. My friend thinks I should tell him. But what do you think I should do?

Reply:Tell him that you like him in a manner that you are most comfortable with. If light touching is your style, do it that way. Unfortunately, if they boy is too dumb to interpret this, you'll have to flat out tell him that you like him.

Been seein this chick for 3 1/2 months now. she's 25 and been married before. she friendly/out goin, assertive and flirty alittle. she "still needs time" to figure-out if she wants to be bf%26amp;gf. she says in her myspace info, she likes good sex, and a favorite guilty pleasure of her's is sex. the last 3 or 4 weekends when we were both free to go out, she dosnt invite me or even mention she's goin anywhere. one reason was, that she was gonna hang out with a group of friends(that i didnt know) so she didnt think i would want to go. but she says she would be seen with me in front of her friends. she posts survey/quiz bulletins on her myspace, tryin to get attetion im guessin from me. i replyed to enuff of them to have told her in some way that i like her and want to get to know her more and deeper. i even told her in person i got a crush on her. but i havent responded to all of them. im not sayin she cheatin, but more, she maybe "movin on" or growin tired of me.

Is my boyfriend trying to make me jealous?

Every since Ive been gone to visit my mom this week out of town...hes been on myspace and hi5 everyday...when i was at home he was never on there...he would go like months without checking it. I noticed the minute i left he updated his hi5...he doesnt know im on there...in the about me section he put words like "sexual" and "rebel"...he added a bunch of new friends, mostly from his hometown in mexico. On myspace...he asked out a girl on a date a couple of weeks ago...we already talked about it...we were fighting at the time and he didnt meet up with her...i noticed that he had copied and filled out two of her surveys and then posted a bulletin with the subject E- (the girls name is Elizabeth)...and it read 'I have no clue how to contact you and myspace is not helping...' He called me today and joked around and said "I know you are dying to know what im doing while you are gone"..he kept saying that...i said "not really"
